A Great Suggestion - The First-Ever Virtual Option is Here:  Tickets available soon.

Many of our longtime Fandangers have sent us inquiries about adding a Virtual Fuzzy to this year's event and we want to meet their expectations.  Today we have added this option for those who want that option.  What a cool idea and we are grateful for your suggestions.  So here is what we came up with to meet this need:

All Fuzzy Virtual Racers will have the opportunity to compete against the other virtual racers in their distance.  There are a few requirements for the Virtual Race to be Counted. 

  1. Most of the run must be conducted on trails.
  2. Elevation certification from your GPS file must be included:
  • At least 250 feet of gain for 5k
  • At least 750 feet of gain for the 9 m
  • At least 1,500 feet of gain for the 25 k
  • At least 3,000 feet of gain for the 50 k

When complete, we will ask you to submit your GPS information that includes distance covered, elevation, and trail system tackled.

There will be special prizes for runners in each of the following categories:

  • The most unique trail system that was run
  • The most elevation covered
  • Fastest time

All Virtual Runs must be submitted by November 8th at 6:00 p.m.

In-Person Event Details: 

The 11th Annual Fuzzy Fandango is a swashbuckling trail running extravaganza scheduled for Saturday, November 7th & Sunday, November 8th, 2020.  The event will encourage runners, walkers, and sloggers of all abilities to enjoy the astounding Mohican Region by exploring a great network of trails.  And if you know Trevor you can guarantee some trails you might have never known existed.  Oh, and there may be a hill or two.   

That's right, due to the restrictions on event size in response to COVID-19, we will be extending the Fuzzy Fandango over 2 days this year!  The 25k and 5k races will take place on Saturday, November 7 and the 50k and 9 mile races will take place on November 8.  All races will be limited to 100 participants with no exceptions.

Below are a few things to expect when attending The Fuzzy Fandango this year.

We will diligently work to limit the spread or transmission of the virus by continuing to provide important supplies at all races and take extra precautions to create a safe environment.  Here are a few of the measures being implemented:

  • Social Distancing - We will practice social distancing throughout the event by recommending each registered participant and spectators keep a minimum distance of 6 feet apart, not congregate in groups of more than 5, and adhere to all recommended CDC guidelines. We ask that racers please limit the number of spectators that they bring with them.  Social Distancing will be strictly enforced.  Not adhering to social distancing practice will restrict you from future Nuhop events.

  • Start/Finish Procedures - Racers will be socially distanced through staggered starts at the beginning of the race.  Specifically, we will be releasing 1 runner every 20 seconds, faster runners first, until all runners are on the course. After finishing we ask that all racers not congregate at the finish and quickly move through the finishing chute.

  • Touchless Packet Pickup - Racers will be pre-assigned bib numbers which will be put in a packet along with their race items and placed on a table to be picked up without the need to interact with a volunteer. We ask that you practice social distancing (keep a minimum distance of 6 feet apart, not congregate in groups of more than 5) and wear a mask while retrieving your items.

  • Wearing of Masks - We require wearing a mask at the beginning and end of the race. Runners may remove their masks after the start of the race when runners have dispersed.  Each registrant will receive a buff style neck gaiter with their registration that will be spruced up with Nuhop branding.  This neck gaiter can easily be used as your face covering. The wearing of masks will be strictly enforced.  Not adhering to this practice will restrict you from future Nuhop events.

  • No Race Day Registration - There will be no race day registration. Registration cutoff will be 48 hours before race day or when the race hits its capacity.  A reminder that we will limit each race distance to 100 runners, so sign up soon to secure your spot.

  • No Race Day Edits - There will be no race day edits to distances. The cutoff to make any changes (up or down in distance, etc.) will be 48 hours before race day.

  • Indoor Race Briefings – Indoor race briefings that take place before a race, will be canceled.  Instead, pertinent and important race information will continue to be given via email and at the race, briefings held at the starting line, 20 minutes prior to each race. 

  • Hand Sanitizer – Hand sanitizer will continue to be available at start/finish, all aid stations, and restroom facilities.  Please use products, as needed. We highly recommend that you bring your own supplies if the product is not available

  • Gloved Volunteers – Volunteers who are in contact with food and drink areas will continue to wear gloves.

  • Aid Stations – As has been our policy, bleach wipes, sanitizer, individually packaged water and food, etc.  Please do not share bottles with others. If you are not comfortable having snacks and foods from aid stations, please feel free to bring drop bags with your own supplies.  We will limit the number of workers at each aid station, the fluid filling stations will be self serve, and the offerings at the aid stations will be sufficient but limited to items that can easily be given to participants with minimal contact with volunteers.

  • Sickness – We are asking for personal accountability.  If you are a runner, spectator or volunteer and feel that you are not well or you experience any of the known symptoms of the flu or coronavirus (COVID-19), please refrain from attending these events.  If you are unsure of your symptoms, please visit the official CDC website

  • Questions – If you have questions in regards to the COVID-19 policies in effect for the Fuzzy Fandango, you can send an email to trevor@nuhop.org

  • Other notes:  The main Nuhop lodge will be closed and all pre and post-race activities will occur outside.  There will be no after-party this year and we will not have lodging for runners due to the ongoing pandemic.  And we are sorry to say, the Chili will have to wait for next year.   All of these changes will inspire us for a more normal Fuzzy in 2021!  But let’s be honest...  When has the Fuzzy ever been normal?!

About the Fuzzy:

The Fuzzy Fandango Supports Nuhop, a residential summer camp for kiddos with special needs as well as outdoor education programming for school districts.

The race start and finish is on Camp Nuhop’s Main Property. To enhance The Fuzzy experience we will have a local beer for all finishers supplied by The Phoenix Brewing Company from Mansfield, Ohio.

For those wishing to make a weekend out of the experience, we will have a block of rooms at Mohican Resort and Conference Center listed under the Fuzzy Fandango.  The start line of The Fuzzy is within easy walking distance of Mohican Resort.

Mohican’s Block Rate is $99 rate plus tax and tech – rooms with 2 double beds. 15 rooms have been blocked at this rate.

This will be an adventure away from ordinary running for some and just another day in the park for others but a great time for everyone!

Packet Pickup:  ALL race packets can be picked up at Camp Nuhop on race mornings ONLY!  Due to our touchless packet pickup plan, the schedule will be as follows:

25k - participants can pick up their race packets between 6:30am-7:45am on Saturday, November 7 

5k - participants can pick up their race packets between 8:00am-9:15am on Saturday, November 7

50k - participants can pick up their race packets between 6:00am-7:15am on Sunday, November 8

9m - participants can pick up their race packets between 7:30am-8:45am on Sunday, November 8

Parking for all events will be outside the main gate in the field before Nuhop's main gate. Use directions for Nuhop above! Overflow parking will be at our beach property and will be a short .5 mile walk to the main property!

With the Groovy Fuzzy Fandango Registration participants will receive:

  • Either A long sleeved tech shirt or a Winter Hat (OR BOTH with upgraded registration)
  • A custom Buff style neck gaiter with Nuhop customization.  Can be worn as a face covering where required by race officials.

Prizes:

We will have awards for overall finishers in each category. Top 3 Female/Male for 5k, 9 Mile, 25k, 50k. No awards for age divisions

About the Course:

The course is comprised of a combination of trails ie. hiking trails, horse trails, mountain bike trails, and forest service roads. Part of the course will bring you onto private property. For the 50 K runners (Double Loop), we will have up to 1.5 miles of road per loop.  We will provide maps of the course when they are official.  Currently, the plan is to use private property, Muskingum watershed trails, the NCOLC trail system, and  Malabar Farm.   If we get a permit from the State Forest, we will pivot to a more traditional Fuzzy route!
