Race Information:

The Norwayne HPAC group is an extracurricular club for Norwayne students who are motivated to improve the health in our community. We are a student-led organization mentored by teachers and community members with the mission of creating a healthier community.

The efforts of our group each year culminates in hosting the Norwayne HPAC 5k & 10k Race, this year called the “Moovin’ on the County Line Trail” Race.

Enjoy  “Moovin’ on the County Line Trail” on October 3, 2020 beginning at the County Line Trailhead in Creston. The race course is fast and flat and traverses corn fields and pastures lined with grazing cattle with awesome country views.

The 5K race begins at the trailhead in Creston (beside the Police Department) and utilizes a turn-around loop at the Eby Road parking area with the finish line on Factory Street.

The 10K race also begins at the trailhead in Creston (beside the Police Department) and utilizes a turn-around loop at the Sterling Park on Kauffman Avenue with a finish line on Factory Street. The race committee is using turn-around loops as opposed to busing like previous years to provide a covid-safe environment.

Runner Recovery bags will be provided self-serve style to race participants in place of the traditional snack stations at races. The free community health fair, refreshments, and other features will not take place this year because of concerns regarding covid-19.

Our event also helps provide awareness about the County Line Trail - a wonderful health and fitness gem in the heart of our community. Our group has enjoyed raising public awareness of  this valuable community asset.

Wave Starts for all events:

5k - We will be sending off 15 runners every 1 min starting at 7:30am until all runners have started.  Runners will be socially distanced prior to race start and you can choose your preferred start wave during registration.  Finish times and race awards will be based on Chip time and your official time will not start until you cross the start line timing mat.

10k - We will be sending off 15 runners every 1 min starting at 8:30am until all runners have started.  Runners will be socially distanced prior to race start and you can choose your preferred start wave during registration.  Finish times and race awards will be based on Chip time and your official time will not start until you cross the start line timing mat.

Virtual Race Option:

The Virtual Race Option will be available to those individuals not comfortable attending the in-person event. Participants will register online and run the course at a time of their choosing (not on race day). They will receive their finisher medal, t-shirt, etc. by local pick-up at Vertical Runner, Wooster or by mail for those outside of the area wishing to participate. Virtual participants may provide their timing information to be considered for race awards.

Should a spike in Covid-19 cases take place in our community, the event would transition to an entirely virtual event if necessary.

Awards:

This year a virtual awards ceremony (Time TBD) will be held because of concerns regarding covid-19.  The top three winners in each age group category and the top three overall males and females in both the 5k and 10k races will be congratulated and provided with awards. Awards may be picked up at Vertical Runner, 148 W. Liberty Street, Wooster, Ohio on Monday, October 5, 2020 during their store hours from 11 am to 6 pm daily. Race Day COVID-19 Screening Protocol:

In compliance with Governor DeWine’s Mask Mandate, masks should be worn by attendees in public spaces and while not engaging in physical activity. On arrival, each individual will undergo a screening process to identify any individuals that could potentially spread COVID-19.

Prior to entering the registration/starting line area, participants and spectators will be screened for symptoms and indicators of COVID-19. Nursing students will be utilized as screeners, led by their Clinical instructor. Hand Sanitizer will be available at the screening station and each attendee is asked to sanitize their hands as they enter the event.

Attendees will be screened with the following questions:

  • In the last 3 days have you had any of the following symptoms:  Cough?  Shortness of breath?  Any fever or treating/treated yourself for fever?  Loss of smell or taste?
  • In the last 14 days, have you been exposed to anyone with COVID-19, or suspected COVID-19?

Nursing students will take temporal temperatures of each attendee. A temperature of >100.4°F will indicate (a positive/febrile screening).

**Any individuals screening positive for COVID-19 indicators will be asked to leave the event immediately and participate in the Virtual Option. (See COVID Screening Algorithm for clarification).

Screening Protocols (including questions and temperature monitoring) will be clearly communicated by e-mail in pre-race instructions. Participants will be advised not to attend the event in-person, should they screen positive for COVID-19 symptoms in advance.

Screening Protocols will also be applied to volunteers and Race Committee members. Anybody feeling ill, exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, or with known and recent contact with an individual testing positive for COVID-19 will not be permitted to serve as volunteers.

The following race components will be eliminated from the event this year because of COVID-19 concerns.: The Family Health Fair, Refreshments (including the Moolicious Cow Pie Sundae Bar), Water Stations, Goat Yoga, in-person Awards Ceremony, Bubble Fun Run, etc.
